African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights Panel Discussion Marked Launch of Newsletter on Policing and the Rights of Vulnerable Groups
By Mohammed Subhan Hussain
On 13th May 2017, during the 60th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (the Commission), a panel talk was held to mark the release of Newsletter number 9 in the Police and Human Rights in Africa series. In conjunction with the content of the newsletter, the panel discussion focussed on police procedure and the rights of certain vulnerable groups in society (e.g. human rights defenders, children, refugees, disabled people). The panel was the result of collaboration between the Honorable Commissioner Med S.K Kaggwa (Commission Special Rapporteur on Prisons, Conditions of Detention and Policing in Africa), the African Policing Civilian Oversight Forum (APCOF) and the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR).
